Calculations for Mishka

I decided it was time for me to recalculate my BMR (basal metabolic rate) which is basically how many calories you burn just being alive, if you were to stay in bed all day. This site has a pretty good calculator for it that you can just plug numbers into.

Based on my age, current weight, and height, my BMR is currently 1504 calories. That is how much I burn just staying in bed. Since that is not what I do all day, there is another calculation you do based on your activity level called the Harris Benedict formula that can tell you what your daily caloric needs are in order to maintain your current weight. I selected the most sedentary option just to see what my lowest caloric intact would be. It told me 1804.

So if I want to lose a pound a week (with no exercise) I can't eat more than 1300 calories in one day. Doing this would reduce the number of calories I am burning by 3500 over a week and that is what is needed to lose one pound.

Obviously, if I workout, I can eat more but should still use the calculator to determine my caloric needs so I am not free wheeling it all over the place.

The whole reason I even got onto this subject tonight is because I was figuring out my calories for my food today and I am right at the 1300 but didn't do any exercise at all so I guess I have to stay away from food for the rest of the night, even though my stomach is grumbling at me and it is only 8:10pm. My other option is to eat some veggies that are practically air but at least filling feeling...so I might do that because I tend to not sleep well when my stomach is growling.....

According to WW veggies (minus corn and I think carrots because of sugar) are 0 points.
